Launched in 2009, the Medco Foundation's mission is to help advance society by sharing smarter medicine to help improve the health and well-being of people everywhere. The Foundation does this in the following ways:
Increasing access to prescription drugs and drug safety information
Promoting health, wellness, and medication safety is at the heart of the Medco Foundation. It aims to develop and fund programs to increase access to medicine for low-income, disadvantaged, and distressed communities. To encourage the safe and effective use of medicine, the Foundation distributes patient educational materials and plans to create programs about health, drug safety issues, and the critical role of pharmacy in the healthcare continuum.
Supporting healthcare education
The Foundation provides funding and support to advance the practice of pharmacy and increase educational and career opportunities for low-income, high-achieving pharmacy students and healthcare professionals. In addition, it aims to develop educational programs, forums, and materials for physicians and other healthcare professionals on new medication protocols and drug therapy standards.
Serving the community
The Medco Foundation aims to support programs, activities, and events for not-for-profit health organizations that focus on patients with chronic, complex, and rare conditions. The Foundation harnesses the power of volunteerism to help those most in need, soliciting volunteers from Medco's employee base of more than 23,000 employees nationwide.
 | The Medco Foundation Give Health A Hand program gives Medco employees an opportunity to find health-related volunteer activities and to share their time, skills, and knowledge with communities and neighbors in need.
The Give Health A Hand Employee Giving Campaign enables Medco employees to make contributions to numerous nonprofit organizations, and the Foundation supports their financial donations with a matching program.
